At PotterworldMC, we have a staff team that helps manage our community to ensure that we are promoting a safe, fun, and friendly environment towards all ages. We receive several questions on becoming a Prefect/staff member every day, so we wanted to give a brief explanation of the requirements for this position, as well as answer some of the more common questions asked by our players.
What is a Prefect?
A Prefect is the beginning staff rank on our server. This is the starting rank within our staff team. This position allows time for the staff team to get to know the new staff member, as well as gives the new staff member time to adjust to the team. Prefects are not permitted to help out in classes yet, but they have an essential part in maintaining a safe and friendly environment for everyone.
The main responsibilities of a Prefect are to answer questions in chat, help any new players, or assist higher-up staff members.
You must be able to use TeamSpeak. Click here for a download link. TeamSpeak is a program that is free and can be downloaded on the official TeamSpeak website. This is one of our main communications platform that lets you chat via voice and text. We hold our staff meetings, conversations regarding the staff team, and even the interviews for Prefect on our TeamSpeak server. Once you download TeamSpeak, you can then add a bookmark to connect to our TeamSpeak server. The IP to it is ts48.gameservers.com:9113
You must be a fifth year on our in-game server. As you progress throughout the years on PotterworldMC, you usually gain more knowledge as you go, whether it be learning about the spells you receive, learning about how the server works, and much more. It does take sometime to get to the fifth year but during that time, you should be embracing the knowledge that is available to all students on our server. This will benefit you if you do get accepted as a Prefect by having that prior knowledge.
You must be at least 13 years old. With age usually comes maturity. We are not saying this is always the case, there are of course exceptions! However, in our experience, people of the ages 13 and older possess the qualities we look for in a staff member.
You must have a clean record on PotterworldMC. When we look for potential Prefects, we look for students that are knowledgeable and abide by our rules. Think about it this way: if you cannot follow the rules, how are you supposed to enforce them amongst other students as a Prefect? Rules keep our server a safe and friendly environment. All of the rules at PotterworldMC can be found at potterworldmc.com/rules.
Last but certainly not least, you need to have a positive attitude. Potterworld is constantly growing, changing, and evolving. Having a positive attitude throughout different transitions is extremely important to being a member of the staff team.
**All of these requirements must be followed if you’re applying for a staff position. Exceptions may only be granted by Head Staff.**
Tips & Guidelines:
Be helpful towards other students on our server, on the forums, and even on TeamSpeak! Helpfulness is key since as a staff member, helping others is a huge part of it.
Be professional and mature as if you were to become a Prefect, you’d be representing our staff team and community. This doesn’t mean you can’t have fun or can’t act like yourself! Simply treat others how you would like to be treated and represent the community in a positive light.
Be active! Our staff members are expected to be active on our server to ensure that all students are getting the help that is needed and to maintain a positive environment for our community. Regular and consistent activity plays a huge part in any staff position.
Put detail and effort into your application. Remember that the application is one of our first impressions we see of you as an applicant. Make sure that you proofread your application before submission, ensure that you have clear and detailed answers, and be yourself!
How can I apply for Prefect? Apply for Prefect at http://www.potterworldmc.com/prefectapp. Applications are usually open for about one week a month, depending on the need for staff. Prefect Application openings will be posted on the homepage!
I am interested in a different position (Developer, Architect, ect), how do I apply for one of those positions? In order to be able to apply for one of those positions, you must first be a Prefect, which is our starting position to get to know someone as a staff member. From that point, we can discuss the future of that person’s time on staff.
Can I apply if I don’t meet the fifth year requirement? It’s rare that we hire anyone that does not meet this requirement. It is normally only in special circumstances and that person must have permission from a head staff member in order to apply.
Can I apply if I am under the age of 13? Only if you have permission from a head staff member. It is extremely rare that a head staff member will bypass the age rule, and we will never hire anyone younger than 12. If we find someone who we want to bypass this rule for, we will contact that person.
How can I keep updated with my application? You can keep updated with your application by clicking the “group of people” icon at the bottom right-hand corner on the website. Then go to “MY APPS” to the right of the application's taskbar. Scroll down and see if you have any comments on your application or if you have received a response.
I got offered an interview on my application! How do I respond to the invite? Go to your application and then add a response under the Head of House’s comment about your invitation to the interview stage. Make sure to provide available times and days of the week in which you could do your interview.
I got rejected! What should I do now? If you have been rejected for the Prefect staff position, make sure to read the full rejection reason comment posted by your Head of House. The rejection message will usually include an estimated time of when you can apply again and usually ways to improve next time around. Please also keep in mind that we receive hundreds of applications every time they are opened. We cannot hire everyone, we comb through to find the people who are the best fit for our team. If you ever need more information regarding your application rejection, only message your Head of House. Do not message other staff members.
